REFRACTORY SHEET TYPES RS-DA, RS-DM, RS-DD and RS-DR

(PDF VERSION)

GENERAL INFORMATION

ZIRCAR Refractory Sheet Type RS-D is a structural high-alumina product supplied in thin sheet form. It is composed of high purity alumina, reinforced with high-alumina ceramic fibers. Refractory Sheet Type RS-D is available in four types: two types of moldables, and two types of rigid sheets. They are as follows:

TYPE RS-DA is a plastic highly moldable sheet ideally suited for forming custom geometries.

TYPE RS-DM Sheet is a moldable form of Type RS-D with a higher density than obtainable from Refractory Sheet Type RS-DA. Type RS-DM is ideally suited for fabricating complex shapes from a flat sheet product for use in metal clad electric band and strip heaters.

TYPES RS-DA & RS-DM can be readily cut with a knife or scissors. Joints can be made by wetting both surfaces with water (with a sponge or brush) and promptly pressing the two surfaces together. Thickness greater than 1/8" can be made by laminating two or more sheets together in this manner.

Refractory Sheet Type RS-DD is suitable for die cutting or stamping of gaskets. It can be re-wet, made moldable, and handled like Type RS-DM.

Type RS-DR cuts and handles similar to Type RS-DD except it is slightly less compressible and more rigid. It has been fired so that it will remain rigid even when wet.

TYPE RS-DD is a rigid sheet that can be moistened with water to impart moldability. (see Rigid Materials)

TYPE RS-DR is a rigid pre-fired sheet that has been heat-treated to remove all organic binder and is stable to moisture attack. Refractory Sheet Type RS-DR is suited for use as a setter or barrier for use in the sintering of powder metal parts (see Rigid Materials).

    1 Becomes rigid upon drying.
2 Can be made moldable with addition of 10-20 wt% H2O.
3 Can be made permanently rigid by heating to 300°C(570°F).
    4 Depending on humidity.
    * Maximum Use Temperature is dependent on variables such as stresses, both thermal and mechanical, and the chemical environment that the sheet product experiences. Contact ZIRCAR Sales Office for more information about the performance of these products in your application.
