Application: Gasketing Material used in Vacuum Degassers

Product: Refractory Sheet Type RS-A Moldable

Application Information: In this application, Refractory Sheet Type RS-A Moldable acts as a gasketing material sections of tubes used in vacuum degassing of molten steel. Inert gases are bubbled through the molten steel to impart purity. Type RS-A Moldable replaces a cast refractory material which cracks and breaks down at higher temperatures. Therefore, with the use of RS-A Moldable, there is less occurance of downtime needed to overhaul the degassing units.

Benefits: The benefits of using RS-A Moldable in this application are:

RS-A Moldable withstands high temperatures up to 1450°C(2642°F), its high alumina content reduces the occurance of imperfections in the molten steel due to contaminants such as when products containing silica are used; RS-A Moldable is flexible, it fits easily into the contours of the vacuum degasser, at 260°C(500°F) RS-A Moldable bakes out to a rigid material fitting the shapes needed;

with the addition of AL-HARD, a phosphate bond occurs which makes the RS-A Moladble more rigid and structurally sound.
